Education Programs

At the Stewart Center, every child is celebrated for their individuality, encouraged to pursue their full potential, and affirmed as full members of the community. Children’s programming at the Stewart Center is the foundation for all other initiatives. Educational programing increased students’ academic achievement, fosters character growth, prepares students for future success, and builds enduring relationships with families.

Elementary School Students

The Center is the onsite after school provider for Kindezi-Gideons Elementary School, serving over 150 students every afternoon. The Center provides homework help, academic enrichment, and character development opportunities. Students participate in one of three Studios – Journalism, Computer Science, and Theater.

During the summer, students participate in an eight-week day camp focused on literacy and includes S.T.E.M, faith development, recreation, and educational travel.

In response to our community’s need during COVID-19, the Stewart Center is hosting Learning Labs for over 50 students everyday. In Learning Labs, students participate in virtual learning while being supported by Stewart Center staff.

Middle & High School Students

The Center’s youth program prepares teens to be leaders in their family, school, and community. Students engage in service learning opportunities, career readiness training, and college preparation workshops.

Not only do students participate in a leadership curriculum or training modules, students are entrusted with leadership roles in the after school, summer camp, and wellness programs.

Along with building resilient individuals, the program fosters enduring relationships and provides a place of belonging and identity for youth. Students experience new thoughts, emotions, and adventures while growing individually and as a community.

Studios

Studios are the foundation of the After School and Summer Camp Programs. Students select a Studio of their choice: Computer Science, Journalism, or Theater. Studios immerse students in a field of study, build character and allow students to create products for others to use and enjoy.

Academic Support

Students in the After School Program have the opportunity to participate in tutoring services. This program provides access to individualized instruction alongside certified teachers.

Youth Travel

Each May the Youth program culminates with an educational travel experience for those students that have completed the curriculum. Over the years the group has traveled to Washington D.C., New York City, and Arizona, among other destinations.
