Education Programs
For over a century, the Stewart Center has been committed to enriching the lives of children and youth. Grounded in love, the Center’s educational programs honor students’ unique identity and affirm their dreams. The afterschool, summer, and youth programs provide holistic enrichment that supports children’s mental, emotional, and physical growth.
Elementary School Students
The Stewart Center is the onsite after-school provider for Kindezi at Gideons Elementary School, serving 125 students every afternoon. After-school offers academic support and enrichment through the tutorial and Studios initiatives. The program runs throughout the school year and is provided at no cost to families.
Tutorial supports students’ growth in mathematics, reading, and English-language arts. The initiative is led by certified Gideons teachers who utilize data-driven instruction in one-on-one and small group settings. Students benefit from individual learning paths that focus on their areas of growth, giving them the greatest opportunity for success.
During June and July, over 70 elementary school students participate in day-camp. Each year, campers engage in educational travel, swimming, recreation, and interest tracts such as art, choir, chess, and organized sports. The program’s academic support component helps prevent the “summer slide” and keeps students’ minds growing during out-of-school time.
Middle & High School Students
The Stewart Center’s youth program prepares teens to be leaders in their family, school, and community. Students engage in service learning opportunities, college and career readiness initiatives, and educational travel.
The program partners with students to help them develop the social and emotional skills and positive character traits needed to succeed in high school and beyond. The Center regularly employs our high school students as assistant counselors in the after school and summer camp programs. High school staffers gain valuable work experience and bring contextual leadership to our children’s programing.
Educational travel is another hallmark of the youth program. Over the years, the Center has traveled over 10,000 miles with our youth to places of historic and cultural significance such as New York City, Washington D.C., and Grand Canyon National Park.
